Description

A spectacular 1:18 model by CMR of the Commer TS3 Truck Team Transporter Ecurie Ecosse 1959 in blue metallic with opening tailgate and addtional movable loading ramps, extending the length of this model from 52cm to 70cm. Car shown is not included.

This was of the most famous racing car transporters ever made. It was normally seen carrying metallic blue D Type Jaguars, with a white stripe on their nose to show the colours of the Scottish flag. These were owned by the Edinburgh–based racing team Ecurie Ecosse. The idea for a custom transporter to carry the teams valuable and precious cars from circuit to circuit was hatched in the late 1950s, just after the team’s second victory at Le Mans. Taking a Commer TS3 coach chassis #T99A2181 as a base, and with help from the Ecurie Ecosse association and countless trade sponsors, it was designed and built by Walter Alexander and Company of Falkirk, Scotland.

It first appeared on 29 May 1960 at the Scottish circuit, Charterhall. It then led a busy, hectic and hard life until Ecurie Ecosse was wound down in 1971.

It then passed through several owners as the years went by so it had deteriorated in the way that well-used, obsolescent commercial vehicles so frequently do. Various tales are attached to the old vehicle, including one that it failed to find a buyer when offered for just £15, and another that since it was still a runner it was used occasionally to transport beer barrels and animal feed…

This model is new and comes in its original box.

An exquisite piece of motoring memorabilia.

A must have for collectors and would make a perfect gift.
